40 Weeks

Well today is my due date and Vivian is still not here...it's so funny how for SO LONG we were worried she'd come too early and now we are probably going to be overdue! I am just so HAPPY my baby is not going to be born premature! :) We are continuing to pray that when she does come into this world that she will be a healthy, beautiful baby girl! However, I have been trying to natural going into labor...TONS of walking, eating spicy foods, foot massages, etc...NOTHING. I finally decided to just stop the nonsense and relax haha Vivi is way too comfy in here!

At my last doctor's appointment a few days ago, my doctor and I discussed the option of being induced. Because I have been 4 1/2cm for 5 weeks, she knows how anxious I am about her arrival AND she knows that my mom has been in town for weeks thinking Vivi was coming early. I had always said I wouldn't want to be induced before 40 weeks unless it was medically necessary, but that if I were overdue, I would give it some thought. After the conversation with my doctor, Michael and I decided that if Vivian hasn't come by my due date that we would schedule the date of August 7 for an induction. I am already halfway dilated and she believes my labor would progress pretty fast...but I definitely don't have any expectations...I know how long labor is for first-time Moms. I really feel a peace about this date and I know my doctor will take the very best care of me...I fully trust her! :)

Like I mentioned before, my mom has been staying with us the past few weeks. She initially came up at 37 weeks thinking Vivian would come any day but when she didn't arrive...Michael and I  didn't want to see her drive back to Memphis and then turn around when I called saying I was in labor. So...we have just been making a vacation out of it...she gives Michael and I space to go out on dates, etc...but it has been so much fun staying up watching Netflix and secretly hoping every night I will go into labor. Every night we say,"Is this the night?". I pretty much have a routine every night...I take a nice long shower, shave my legs, and straighten my hair... just in case that specific night is THE NIGHT. Sounds crazy to shave my legs every single night, but a girl has to be ready right??? ;) Our hospital bags have been packed for weeks, but it definitely makes me feel at ease being prepared!!!!

So...if Vivian isn't here by Monday night, we will be going to the hospital at 6am Tuesday morning to deliver our baby girl!!! :) Just knowing the end is in sight is very comforting and definitely makes us SO EXCITED!!! Stay tuned...

Things I've Been Experiencing This Month:

  • Getting very, very anxious to meet Vivian!!!
  • Trying natural ways to induce my labor...nothing has worked so far, but it does give me an excuse to get pedicures! :)
  • Total weight gain at 40 weeks: 30 lbs
  • Mom has been staying with us to help us get ready for Vivian...but it mainly just feels like a sleepover every night!!! A lot of Netflix and going out to eat :)
  • I found out at my doctor's appointment that I am GBS Negative--yay!!! This means I don't have to get antibiotics while in the hospital!
  • I finished a whole 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights--not working has definitely been "fun"...I know my time in front of the TV will DEFINITELY decrease when Vivi comes!
Facts About Baby At Week 40
  • At 40 weeks pregnant, much of the vernix has vanished but you will notice traces on her body.
  • 15% of your child's body is fat. Since she hasn't learned to shiver yet, these fat stores will help regulate her temperature.
  • Approximately 60 - 75 percent is water!
  • Her lungs will continue developing until birth. They are manufacturing large quantities of surfactant which works to keep the air sacs open.
  • She continues to grow; her hair and nails longer as well. You may need to trim those fingernails soon after birth or protect her face from scratches with mittens.
  • Small breast buds are present on both sexes at week 40 of pregnancy.
  • The baby now weighs 7.6 pounds (3462gm) and is 20.2 inches (51.2cm) long.
  • Congratulations! Any day now you will be cradling your daughter! Cherish the moments and learn all you can about this new personality in your life. They go by all too fast!
